Ohh...

Augie knows the trick of getting negative attention. Today it almost drove me over the edge. Every 6 seconds he was climbing, hitting the window with a toy, picking up the dog food at Jenny's, banging his head. I know that he wants to be the only baby some days. I really am empathetic, but I have to be the mommy, and say "no", "no" a hundred times an hour. I feel like such a jerk. People say that it is so much harder to say "no" than "yes" to your kids. I agree, but I thought it would be later- as in "no you cannot smoke that crystal meth" or "no you may not sell your molar on eBay"

... not

"no, we don't climb" "no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb""no, we don't climb"

Thankgoodness for copy and paste, I wish it was that easy to do all day long. I hate to be the bad guy. Hate it! But I have to do it. My mom is thinking "I told you so"... even though she isn't reading this as I write it, some cosmic force is making her think that this very moment.

Anyway, by the end of the day I was toast. I yelled at Augie to sit down in the highchair. It made him cry. Then the full on tantrum took place until daddy got home about 5 min. later... and ofcourse wounded Augie ran for dad. Thank God for Jeff though, he sat with him and talked about how we have to be nice to mommy... I am sure Augie got every word of it. Then he put Augie in time-out, just to help reinforce that we are unified parents. When Augie got up I asked him to bring me a book so we could read it... he looked skeptical, but then spotted the ABC book he loves and ran it over. It might have been one of the most satisfying reads ever.

I hate when I "fight" with my kids, but I guess I kind of have to, if that makes sense, so they won't be crazy jerky brats.

I love my boy, though, and we made up over a bowl of blackberries and whipped cream.

If it helps at all Kelly, I always hated being the bad guy too! But you know what? Someone's gotta do it! When ever anything major/traumatic/serious/etc was happening, both you and your brother would come to me alone because subconsciously it must have registered that the "bad guy" didn't necessarily tell you what you wanted to hear, or let you have or do what ever it was that you wanted, but, did always tell you what you needed to know and made sure you had what you needed....even if that need was totally contrary to what you thought you needed...like a grounding or "no chores ~ no allowance". Sure I scolded and we fought but, you must have known (or eventually figured out in the backs of your kid size pea brains)that it was always for your own safety, betterment, protection, education and/or well being. Welcome to my world honey....I LOVE YOU and am so proud of the "bad guy" & Mommy you are! ! ! ! ! ! !

The lesson of the day in our house was "No dancing on the coffee table." Over and over and over...at least I know some of the no's sink in, but it can get frustrating and make me feel sad.

Good mommies use no :)
